Construction Worker Job profile and Description

A construction worker is a laborer who works in the construction industry, usually in the construction site. The construction worker is usually engaged in the practical aspects in the construction industry as opposed to working in finance or design. The term refers not only to the general construction laborers, but also the plumbers, carpenters and electricians who work in the construction site. Other people who are covered in this general term include the bricklayer, the carpet layer, the equipment operator, painters, decorators, plasterer, pipe fitter and the steel erector. A construction worker is involved in every phase of the construction process and is therefore vital to the completion of the construction project.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Arriving at the construction site early enough to commence work
  • Loading and unloading construction equipment
  • Putting up and taking down the scaffoldings
  • Clearing working areas
  • Mixing construction material to the right consistency
  • Working closely with the skilled workers and stone masons
  • Setting up forms where concrete is poured
  • Engaging in all forms of hard labor that is necessary for the completion of the construction project
  • Installing various commercial, residential and industrial systems
  • Ensuring that the construction projects kowtow to the set building regulations and codes
  • Using, cleaning and maintaining the different tools used on the construction site
  • Supervising and offering apprentice to new construction workers
  • Carefully handling hoists, cranes and other equipment used to handle the construction material’s
  • Working at heights
  • Working in confined spaces
  • Handling some awkward and repetitive manual tasks
