Plumber Job Profile and Description

A Plumber is basically a maintenance worker accountable for the water pipe layout and systems of a building. Such persons are employed as a vital part of the maintenance team and work under the administration of a manager. Individuals in this position are commonly given a job training to get familiarized with the pipe layout and systems of a facility.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Conducting schedule maintenance and servicing of water pipes in a facility.
  • Ensuring the proper supply of water without and leakages.
  • Regular inspection of the pipes to detect damages and leakages.
  • Correctly using all plumbing apparatus and repair equipments.
  • Assembling, fitting, overhauling and repairing plumbing systems and fixtures in a facility.
  • Reading the layout plans and the blueprints of a facility to plan and organize plumbing activities.
  • Reporting damages and other maintenance related issues to the supervising manager.
  • Inspecting the facility and determining the type and size of pipes that will be required.
  • Appropriately assembling and installing valves etc.
  • Placing order for plumbing parts and other fixtures.

Skills and Specifications

  • Should have the ability to read blueprints and layout plans.
  • Ability to effectively manage time and complete all delegated work within the specified time.
  • Knack of working in a team and coordinating work with fellow workers.
  • Knowledge of appropriately using and handling plumbing tools and equipments.

Education and Qualifications

  • High school degree, diploma or a GED equivalent qualification from an accredited institution.
  • Vocational training as a plumber, with about 2 to 3 years of experience.
