Architect Job Profile and Description

An architect’s job description is to plan, create models and manage building constructions. Architects ensure that the design is safe, useful and as artistic as possible as the client wishes, without compromising on the laws and regulations of that given area where the construction takes place. Architects tend to work with other specialists. They can work for a company, or all together be self employed. Some architects also choose to specialize. Although it is a very taxing field, the rewards are worth it.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Plan, design and supervise building constructions.
  • Ensure that their buildings are safe, useful and artistic.
  • Satisfy their clients.
  • Follow the laws and regulations.
  • Draft designs and ensure that the designs are used in the real construction work.
  • Meet with the client and discuss the client’s expectations.
  • Establish the type of building that is required.
  • Determine the purpose of the building in collaboration with the client.
  • Draw up a budget on behalf of the client.
  • Carry out inspection on the site that where the building is to be built.
  • Can sometimes search for land on behalf of the client.
  • Design the building in relation to the site, climate, surrounding buildings and slope.
  • Draw sketches showing the general building appearance.
  • Revise sketch to meet clients’ needs including all technical detail and specifics.
  • Approve construction.
  • Approve materials.

  • Should have a license.
