Architectural Technicians Job Description and Profile

Architectural Technicians provide architectural design solutions and services. They are specialists in building design, science of architecture, and construction. They work closely with architects in construction management and building design teams. Architectural technicians also advise and evaluate on refurbishment, reuse, recycling, repair, and deconstruction of buildings. These architectural technicians form a link between the concept of architect and the completed building.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Negotiating projects, assessing the requirements of users and clients, and agreeing the project brief.
  • Evaluating and providing advice on environmental, regulatory, and legal issues.
  • Designing the project, developing and presenting design plans using traditional and computer-aided design (CAD) methods.
  • Developing and showing design proposals using traditional drawing and computer-aided design (CAD) methods.
  • Assessing the surveys required before commencing the work and ensuring that the surveys are undertaken and results are fed into project.
  • Liaising with authorities such as building inspectors and planning enquiries when developing documentation for legal approval.
  • Advising clients on securing the best appropriate deals for the work.
  • Obtaining feedback from people and clients and providing report on overall performance of contractors once the project of construction is completed.
  • Evaluating the performance of constructed buildings that are occupied and developing maintenance management information.
  • Carrying out risk assessments in design stage and administering project certifications and contracts.
  • Producing, advising, and analyzing detailed specifications for appropriate processes or materials to be used.
  • Managing the job of trainee technologists as well as contributing to the running of business.

Education and Qualification

  • Degree in Architectural Technology related field from an accredited institution.
  • Masters in Architectural Technology is an added advantage.
