Automotive Service Writer Job Profile and Description

An Automotive Service Writer is also widely referred to as a service adviser, and are, mostly hired by automotive service centers. Service writers are required to work under a supervisor and comply with all the business process norms of the organization. Candidate for such jobs also undergo an on the job training before being inducted into the company and getting acquainted with working policies.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Attending to the customers of the service station and noting their requirements and complaints regarding their vehicles.
  • Providing solutions, recommendations and suggestions to customers regarding their vehicle complaints.
  • Attending telephonic enquires of customers.
  • Coordinating business functions with other departments of the organization.
  • Estimating the cost of repair and the approximate time for repairing the vehicle.
  • Following the standard operating procedure of the company.
  • Addressing queries regarding company procedures, warranty procedures and formalities for vehicle repairs etc.
  • Completing all tasks assigned by the supervising manager.

Skills and Specifications

  • Should have excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to network with customers.
  • Ability to effectively manage time and complete all assigned tasks.
  • Basic technical understanding of automotive functionality.
  • Ability to effectively coordinate work with fellow employees and other departments of the establishment.

Education and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or diploma in management, engineering, public relations or any other related discipline from an accredited institution.
  • Post Graduate degree or a diploma in engineering, public relations or any other related discipline with 2 – 3 years experience as an Automotive Service Writer.
