Litigation Support Specialist Job Description and Profile

Under general direction, the Litigation Support Specialist’s job entails consultation with lawyers and other individuals to create and offer technical support for legal litigation, from the initial stages in case preparation through the trial process up to appeal. Litigation Support Specialist possess ample legal expertise to know the various litigation processes, rules of evidence, and court proceedings to utilize the technology that will support trial groups in an effective and efficient manner.

Duties and Specifications

  • Acquires knowledge of current automation technology on legal applications like coding and document imaging, optical character recognition, database management and design, specific litigation support computer software and multimedia presentation software.
  • Provides technical support in courtroom trials with the operation of software, databases and transcripts, accessing necessary documents and other forms of electronic exhibit items and other supporting litigating staff when required.
  • Troubleshoots technical difficulties and resolves current issues during mediations, hearings, trials, arbitrations and related proceedings.
  • May be required to perform basic WAN and LAN administration as well as user support responsibilities in coordination with other computer experts or as back-up for computer system or IT Specialists.

Skills and Specifications

  • Able to determine technological requirements of litigating experts, evaluate a number of possible solutions and utilize existing technology to meet litigation needs.
  • Must analyze and resolve user issues and problems on litigation software.
  • Be able to instruct litigation staff in the utilization of litigation computer software systems.

Education and Qualifications

  • Combination of education, training and experience that likewise includes two years or more of relevant paralegal experience in a legal environment that provides the necessary knowledge and capabilities.
