Aircraft Mechanic Job Profile and Description

The job of an Aircraft Mechanic is highly specialized and pertains to repairing of the aircraft parts and ensuring the proper functionality of the aircraft. Aviation companies, air force services and airports typically employ aircraft mechanics. A person in this position requires having experience and the expertise to detect technical snags and promptly mend the same.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Inspecting of aircrafts and detecting any snags or technical issues.
  • Conducting regular maintenance and service of the aircrafts, and repairing engines and other aircraft parts.
  • Ensuring proper functionality of the aircraft and stating whether the same is fit to fly.
  • Keeping maintenance and repair records and placing orders for spare parts for the aircrafts.
  • Testing aircrafts to ascertain that the same is functioning seamlessly.
  • Leading a team of technical assistants, delegating functions to them, and evaluating the work on the subordinates.
  • Keeping a record of the service cycle of the fleet of aircrafts.
  • Maintaining the inventory of the stockroom.
  • Working in compliance with the aviation safety norms.

Skills and Specifications

  • Should have excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Ability to effectively manage time and use devices like the electrical test equipment to find problems in electrical systems.
  • Sound understanding of the functionality of aircrafts and its parts.
  • Ability to effectively lead and manage a team.

Education and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or diploma in engineering, aviation or any other related discipline from an accredited institution.
  • Post Graduate degree or a diploma in aeronautical engineering, aviation or any other related discipline.
