Sonogram Technician Job Description and Profile

A Sonogram Technician is an individual, who produces images as well as recording of anatomy and internal organs that assist in diagnosing and providing treatment of the health of a patient. A sonogram technician mainly utilizes ultrasound equipment or device to gain an improved understanding of the internal condition of a patient. They produce images, which can display the shape of organs, composition of blood, or show fluids and other bodily volumes that might lay risk to the patient’s health.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Tracking large amounts of information and keeping accurate and timely records of patient’s medical history to maximize the efficiency of future treatment.
  • Working with patients directly to explain them the exam procedure and to make any physical adjustments required to obtain perfect imaging. Transferring patients and providing patient safety.
  • Adjusting controls of equipment and preparing reports of functional, anatomical, and pathological data.
  • Selecting appropriate scanning factors required for diagnostic ultrasound processes or procedures.
  • Photographing relevant anatomy and pathology independently for the final display to health care professionals or physicians.
  • Maintaining a safe, clean, and efficient work atmosphere in accordance with policies and procedures.
  • Maintaining the room with adequate and necessary supplies and managing resources effectively.
  • Selecting equipment or device for the use in cardiac sonography.
  • Developing and maintaining positive interpersonal relations with other department personnel.

Skills and Specifications

  • Knowledge of processes to obtain technically diagnostic ultrasound images.
  • Ability to operate equipment provided for obtaining highest quality ultrasound images.
  • Ability to operate modern sonogram equipment.
  • Ability to manage complex work environment.
  • Effective communication and good interpersonal skills.

Education and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Diagnostic Medical Sonography field from an accredited institution.
  • Graduate of approved certified diagnostic sonography program.
