Graduate Student Job Profile and Description

Graduate students are qualified enough to take up some jobs that are usually offered by the university they study in. As they are still students, they cannot take up full time jobs elsewhere, but their respective educational institutes give them a chance to work and earn a stipend which helps them pay off their tuition fees or earn some money.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Graduate students may work as branch librarians who are in charge of the circulation desk or assist users with research and answer information queries
  • They have to check in new books and periodicals
  • Some of them may do clerical jobs where files need to be recorded and updated regularly
  • There are jobs related to media cataloging where one needs to make banners and pamphlets for university events and also contact the media for coverage and publicity
  • Some help the technical department with their knowledge of computers and help solve problems
  • One may have to work in special projects where he may have to process manuscript collections and prepare exhibitions

Skills and Specifications

  • Graduate students must have basic technical knowledge as most of the jobs are done on the computer
  • They should be able to work in a team and have problem solving abilities
  • They must be good with numbers and have good research skills
  • They must follow the rules and policies of the department they are working for
  • They need to pay attention to details and must be creative
  • They must have good communication and interpersonal skills
  • They should balance their studies and jobs properly


Education and Qualifications

Since they are still in the process of finishing their courses, basic qualifications would be a high school bachelor’s degree and knowledge of computers. Besides, diplomas in vocational courses will also help them.
