Millwright Job Profile and Description

A Millwright plays a significant role in the manufacturing sector of an economy. An individual in this position is accountable for a plethora of functions, which include the maintenance, servicing and assembling of machinery in a plant. Persons in such roles typically work under a maintenance manager and are responsible for optimizing the machinery output. Millwrights also undergo on the job training to get acquainted with the processed of an establishment.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Inspect all machinery and equipment of a manufacturing unit.
  • Assembling machinery of a unit and ensuring the proper functioning of the same.
  • Detecting defect and malfunctions in the functioning of machines and repairing the same.
  • Refurbishing machinery and replacing parts to optimize output.
  • Obtaining feedback from the production department regarding the functioning of the machinery.
  • Placing orders for spare and replacement parts and filing order forms and documentations for the same.
  • Complying with all safety measures outlined by the company for all work processes.
  • Maintaining a record of all the maintenance work that has been conducted on the machinery.

Skills and Specifications

  • Should have excellent written and verbal communiqué abilities.
  • Ability to effectively manage time and meet all specified deadlines.
  • Should have the ability to detect technical malfunctions and repair the same.

Education and Qualifications

  • High School degree, diploma or a GED equivalent qualification from a certified college.
  • Bachelor’s degree or an associate’s degree in mechanical, automobile or electrical engineering, or any other related discipline with about 2 – 3 years of experience as a maintenance supervisor.
