Business Intelligence Specialist Job Profile and Description

A Business Intelligence Specialist functions to implement and design the business intelligence systems and software.

The chief responsibility of a business intelligence specialist also includes gathering requirements, selecting, blueprinting and thereby providing BI solutions to end users as well as providing technical support to these users. BI specialist should also be able to integrate the BI systems and software with databases and data warehouses.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Designing, Testing and coding new or modified BI systems.
  • Interacting with project managers to ensure that data entry, changes and delete functions meet requirements for the successful completion of the project.
  • Assessing the long term strategic goals for the development of BI system in coordination with the end user, managers and other stakeholders.
  • Developing the report and report definitions for these BI software and system.
  • Conducting job duties according to the organization’s Systems Development Life Cycle (SDLC) methodology.
  • Troubleshooting BI tools, systems and software.
  • Working towards merging of BI platforms with enterprise systems and applications.
  • Analyzing and designing BI front end applications according to the user requirements.

Skills and Specifications

  • Should be able to prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.
  • Should have leadership qualities to mentor junior members of the team.
  • Should have the makings of a good worker who can work in conjunction with the clients, managers and other stakeholders.

Education and Qualifications

  • Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, or Information Systems related field from an accredited institution
  • Experience in Computer Science related activities.
