Real Estate Salesperson Job Profile and Description

A real estate salesperson is also known as a real estate agent. His primary job responsibility is to guide his client to buy any property, namely, residential, commercial or undeveloped properties. Real estate salespersons may work on behalf of landlords who own the property up for lease or sale, or help tenants in search of homes or commercial property to rent

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Real estate salespersons may represent buyers in real estate transactions or even represent both buyers and sellers
  • They must be able to expertly market themselves as well as the properties owned by the sellers they may represent
  • They have to create and maintain complex deals as this is a very competitive market
  • They should be proficient in industry technology and be able to search online databases for information on property tax information, rental properties or find out available homes for sale
  • They must prepare, using the latest software, appropriate paperwork required for specific real estate transactions
  • They must be aware of the latest trends and demands in the real estate market
  • They should also be able to predict and set prices in realty

Skills and Specifications

  • Real estate salespersons need to have extremely good communication skills, both written and verbal
  • They have must have good negotiation and networking skills
  • They must be good with numbers and willing to work hard
  • They must have good marketing skills
  • They should have basic knowledge of technology to make transactions
  • They set their own schedules and may also work from home although a credible or recognized real estate firm helps them to get more clients

Education and Qualifications

A real estate person need not have any specific degree for this course. Some only have a high school degree, but big companies hire people with commerce or a management degree, with specialisation in sales and marketing.
